About

It’s a long island with a long history. Want to hear it?

Then you’ve come to the right place.

The Long Island History Project is a podcast featuring interviews with researchers, authors, filmmakers, collectors and any person with a passion for the history of this riotous island. From tales of revolutionary spies to memories of one-legged stock car racers, we seek to bring you authentic voices with compelling stories to tell. We also aim to shine a light on those people and organizations working to preserve Long Island’s heritage. Our regular schedule is two episodes a month through the spring and fall.

You can follow us on Instagram and Twitter.

Your hosts are:

Chris Kretz, academic librarian, researcher and feral audio producer. Chris has been podcasting since 2005. He is co-author of the book Oakdale and the current president of the Long Island Radio & Television Historical Society (LIRTVHS). You can follow him on Twitter @cbkretz.

Connie Currie is one of the founders of LIRTVHS as well as a past president of that organization and the Sayville Historical Society. A veteran of numerous Long Island preservation battles, Connie is an expert on the life and works of architect Isaac H. Greene and keeper of the flame of the Telefunken site in Sayville.

The Long Island History Project was initially produced out of the Dowling College Library, then with the generous support of the Long Island Radio & Television Society and now is an independent podcast.

We record some interviews at the Sayville Public Library and we thank them and director Jennifer Fowler for the use of the space. We also thank Dowling College for their early support of the show.
